Abstract

3-methyl-N-methyl-4-aminonitrobenzene (MNMA) crystals of good optical quality have been grown by zone melting. Belonging to the point group symmetry mm2, MNMA Is an optical biaxial crystal. We determined the dispersion of the refractive indices birefringence as well as two of the five nonvanishing electrooptic coefficients. The results show that MNMA might be an Interesting electrooptic material for optoelectronic uses.
