Abstract
We have demonstrated efficient generation of 130-nm radiation by four-wave mixing (FWM) in Hg vapor.1 The four-wave mixing process is shown In Fig. 1. The input wavelengths of 255, 405, and 777 nrrs are chosen for proper phase matching in generating a 130-nm beam and enhancement of the FWM efficiency through a two-photon resonance with the 71Sstate of atomic mercury. Well- collimated Gaussian input beams interact in a merсury cell over a 100-cm distance to generate the 130-nm beam. These conditions result in a VUV output beam of high optical quality, and they allow scaling of the four-wave mixing system to higher energies. VUV pulse energies as high as 1.25 mj and efficiencies of >5 % have been reached with this system.
