Abstract
We report on a narrow Iinewidth Er3+-doped fiber laser oscillator designed for high powers. Laser slope efficiency was optimized by proper choice of output coupling, and losses were minimized by means of a recently reported fiber end-face preparation technique.1 An air gap between the fiber and laser output coupler acted as an etalon whose reflectivity could be tuned for maximum laser output while maintaining a narrow laser linewidth. We present measurements of performance at room temperature and 77 K for the laser pumped at 514.5 nm.
