Abstract

Since the first reported observation of phase conjugation in stimulated Brillouin scattering this nonlinear optical process has been the subject of extensive experimental and theoretical investigation.1 Despite this intensive effort, numerical modeling of the process for practical systems has proved to be difficult due to very large computer storage and computational requirements.2 We describe a novel approach to the problem which permits us to model accurately the conjugation process on a microcomputer in full 3-D simulations and in the high resolution conditions required for large Fresnel number geometries and significantly aberrated beams.
