Determination of the stimulated emission cross section for the laser transition In Nd:YAG

Abstract

The stimulated emission cross section σse is an important parameter in the design of a laser system because its value is directly proportional to the small signal gain. The most widely used solid state laser material is YAG:Nd, yet the value of σse is still not precisely known. Of the more than ten determinations in the literature, there is a factor of ~3 range in value.
