Multiple close proximity independently addressable lasers with minimal crosstalk

Abstract

Independent operation of two or more laser filaments fabricated in close proximity to each other has been reported previously. However, in previous examples where the spacing is <25 μm, the devices have been optically, electrically, or thermally coupled. By increasing the spatial separation between devices on the same substrate beyond this value, the various coupling mechanisms, which lead to undesirable crosstalk, can be greatly reduced. However, in many optical systems imaging aberrations increase as the laser elements become further removed from the optical axis. it is, therefore, highly desirable to fabricate a multiple laser device in which the individual elements are as closely spaced as possible.
