Abstract
Magnetooptic materials such as yttrium iron garnet (YIG) and bismuth substituted yttrium iron garnet (BIG) have received considerable attention1-3 in view of their numerous possible uses. They are characterized by large Faraday rotations with modest or very little absorption. Devices such as optical isolators, magnetooptic spatial light modulators, and current and magnetic field sensors have been proposed and demonstrated using these materials.
