Abstract

Optical communication systems based upon solitons [1] have recently gained considerable interest as a possible scheme for very long-haul lepeaterless communication links [2,3]. Contrary to linear optical pulses, however, closely spaced soliton pulses may interact with each odier [4], In addition, solitons of unequal carrier wavelengths e.g. in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system will, due to fiber dispersion, inevitably collide at some point in the system.
