Abstract

The selection, of a suitable solvent and techniques for the growth of 2-[N-(L)-prolinol]-5-nitropyridine (PNP) single crystals has been reported,1-2 However, we found that the addition of metal ion dopands has a strong effect on the growth habit and growth rate of this crystal. We have investigated the growth of PNP in solutions doped with Nd3+, Cd2+, Al3+, La3+, Pr3+ and a mixture of Cd2+ and Nd3+. We are able to obtain good quality single crystals of PNP doped with Nd3+ and Cd2+.
