Abstract
Consider two trains of short optical pulses intersecting in a photorefractive crystal. Let the pulses be partially coherent with each other. Where the pulses intersect in the crystal the resulting intensity interference pattern will rearrange charges to form a space-charge field. The space-charge field created by a single pair of interfering pulses is quite small; however, in a photorefractive crystal with a long dark storage time the space-charge field can accumulate over many pulses.
