Abstract
Much interest has been generated in polydiacetylene materials due to their potential applications in nonlinear optical devices.1,2 We report measurements of the third-order nonlinear susceptibility of the poly bis-(p-toluene sulphonate) ester of 2,4-hexadiyne-1,6-diol(pTS) at frequencies near to and coincident with the peak of the excitonic resonance. Fabry-Perot cavities containing pTS film have also been constructed and we have demonstrated a thermal refractive optically bistable device operating in the 700-nm region.
