Abstract
When two phase conjugate mirrors (PCMs) with gain are placed near each other, an oscillation builds between them.1 This is called a double phase conjugate oscillator (DPCO). The beat frequency between the counterpropagating oscillations is independent of the reciprocal optical path length of the resonator but does depend on the nonreciprocal optical path length—a property that can be used for inertial sensing of rotational motion in a ring DPCO.
