Ultrahigh peak power generation from terawatt to petawatt

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The concept of chirped pulse amplification allows efficient amplification of ultra-short pulses by superior energy storage materials. Terawatt peak power pulses are routinely produced by tabletop systems, and large scale lasers are harnessed to produce pulses at the petawatt level–1 kJ in 1 Hz.
