Abstract

We report cw upconversion laser action in Er:YLiF4 on two new transitions in the green (560.6-nm) and blue (469 7-nm) spectral regions. Earlier, upconversion lasing was reported at 551 and 671 nm.1,2 The present experiments were carried out using 3-mm long crystals of 1% Er:YLiF4 with mirror coatings directly applied to spherically polished (R = 2-cm) faces and an output coupling of 1% The crystals were mounted with their c-axes perpendicular to the laser axis in a gas flow liquid helium cryostat where the temperature could be varied between 2 and 300 K.
