Abstract

A diode-pumped cw rotating Nd:Glass disk laser has been demonstrated which promises scalability to very high average powers. Nd:Glass lasers have previously been limited to relatively low average powers1 by the poor thermal conductivity of glass which results in thermally induced lensing, birefringence, or physical damage.2 It has been proposed that these effects may be overcome in diode-pumped laser systems by rotating the Nd:Glass to average the heat load over a much larger volume.3
