Abstract
Laser-diode (LD) end-pumping of a solid-state laser provides excellent efficiency because of the superior spectral and spatial overlap of the pumping. Various higher power end-pumped laser systems (including multi-facets-pumping,1 LD multiplexing,2 and fiber-bundle-pumping3) have been successfully reported. However, further scale-up of end-pumping not only requires increasing the dimension of the cavity setup to support the larger fundamental mode but also loses efficiency because of thermal birefringence and aberration.4
