Abstract

In recent years quasi-cw lasing in electron-beam-pumped, high-pressure gas mixtures was obtained in visible, near-infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) spectral regions on allowed transitions between bound states of the neon atom (3p-3s transitions; best results at λ = 585, 703, 725 nm), nitrogen molecule (2+ system; λ = 358, 381 nm), nitrogen molecular ion (1 system; λ = 391, 428 nm), and, finally, heavy noble atoms (d−p transitions; λ ~ 2 μm).1
