Abstract
Unstable resonators combined with variable-reflectivity mirrors seem to be the best choice to control the mode performance and the transverse output beam profile1,2 of laser beams. Such resonators have been successfully applied to TEA-CO2 and to Nd-YAG lasers. The performance of output mirrors with Gaussian3,4, parabolic.5 and super-Gaussian6 reflectivity profiles has been tested in such laser systems.
