Abstract

The use of pulse combustion to atomize coal water slurry for combustion has shown promise in terms of being able to simplify the atomization process. Investigations of a large-amplitude, high-frequency (>60 Hz) pulse combustor suggest a need to visualize the combustion process to better understand how the large-amplitude pressure pulses are generated. A glass-walled pulse combustor was constructed to enable viewing the combustion with high-speed optical detectors while operating on propane and air.
