Abstract

Poor thermomechanical properties of phosphate laser glass have limited the usefulness for high-average-power lasers and kilowatt-slab lasers in which an active material with both good laser performance and desirable thermomechanical properties is required, although phosphate laser glass has many advantages. Much research has been performed to improve thermomechanical properties in a manner consistent with maintaining good laser and spectral properties of the phosphate laser glass. A new type of glass with good thermomechanical properties and excellent laser performance has been developed by introducing A1203 into phosphate glass.
