Abstract

A schematic diagram of the discharge region is presented in Fig. 1. The directions of glow discharge, gas flow and the laser beam were perpendicular to each other. The electrode system consisted of two discharge channels, which in turn consisted of two rows of anode elements that were individually connected with a dc power supply through a ballast resistor. A water-cooled copper tube in the middle of the channel was used as a cathode. An array of auxiliary electrodes was located up-stream of the main electrodes. Each auxiliary electrode was connected with a pulse power supply through a capacitor. The total volume of the discharge region was 10000 cm3.
