Abstract

With the optical excitation of a train of properly spaced laser pulses, the direction of the emitted submillimeter wave can be electrically steered in free space by varying the static bias voltage on each antenna element of the array,1 However, if the away is illuminated by a single laser pulse, the pulse shape and the center wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation at a fixed direction in far field can be electrically controlled. We demonstrale a frequency scanning range from 140 GHz to over 1 THz from a 3.2 mm photoconducting antenna array.
