Generation and amplification of ultrashort pulses by a fiberless CFA technique

Abstract

The large fluorescence bandwidth of Nd:glass or Ti:sapphire favors those laser materials for the generation of picosecond and subpicosend pulses. The chirped-pulse amplification technique (CPA) together with a regenerative amplifier allows effective amplification and energy extraction according to the high energy storage capability of Nd:glass. Thus single pulses of terawatt power are possible, giving the possibility for new interaction experiments with intensities of ~1018 W/cm2.
