Abstract
There is considerable interest in the generation of ultrahigh power subpicosecond pulses for novel investigations of laser-matter interactions. The KrF excimer laser has shown high potential for generating such pulses of extreme brightness since the amplified wavelength of 249 nm is favorable and since its spectral bandwidth supports amplification of pulses below 100 fs.
