Abstract

Homodyne laser interferometry (HLI) has been proved to be a sensitive technique for trace detection in the gas phase.1-3; Theoretically, the measurement of absorption coefiicients ~10-12 cm-1 should be possible, exceeding the sensitivity attainable by the photoacoustic technique. A key element in the use of HLT in the detection of trace species in the atmosphere is spectral recognition. We present, in this paper what we believe to be the first use of this technique in spectroscopic identification and quantitation of individual components of a binary trace gas mixture in an ambient atmospheric background
