Abstract

Wannier-Stark localization (WSL) in superlattices (SL) has unique electro-optical (EO) absorption properties which are attractive for optical switching devices.1–3 In this paper, we investigate a dual wavelength optical switch consisting of a symmetric self-electro-optic effect device (S-SEED) based on the WSL. Concepts of dual wavelength switching and variable negative differential conductivity (NDC) by changing illumination wavelengths are demonstrated and fully utilized to obtain the desirable tunability of the optical switching devices.
