Abstract
The generation of single-mode short optical pulses by a semiconductor distributed feedback (DFB) laser with near-transform-limited bandwidth product at infrared wavelengths is important for many uses in fiber communication systems. Commonly used index-coupled semiconductor DFB lasers have problems in yielding single-mode radiation from the uncertainty of gratings-to-facet phases.1,2
