Abstract

SBM crystal is a potential medium for a self-pumped phase conjugator (SPPC) due to its large optical nonlinearity. The total internal reflection (TIR) and external ring cavity SPPC of SBN in visible wavelengths (442, 514, and 633 nm) have been studied.1,2 We report here SBN:Ce (Ce-doped SBN:60) two-wave coupling and external ring cavity SPPC at near infrared wavelengths from 710 to 850 nm. We found that SBN:Ce is also a good candidate for near IR SPPC. The SBMCe crystal (0.1% Ce by weight) was prepared with very good optical quality at near IR. A cw Ti:sapphire laser was used as the tunable pumping source. The steady- state two-wave coupling measurements were made at wavelengths from 710 to 850 nm. The laser beam was polarized in the extraordinary direction of the crystal. The grating wave vector ks was parallel to the C axis of the crystal.
