Mode-locking of Cr:LiCAF lasers

Abstract

The discovery of new lasing materials such as Cr:LiCAF or Cr:LiSAF has generated increasing interest in developing all solid-state (diode-pumped) tunable lasers. The broad-emission spectrum makes them unique sources for tunable or short pulses lasers. We demonstrate in this paper the generation of picosecond pulses from a cw Cr:LiCAF laser. Although we used a krypton-ion laser to pump this laser, direct pumping of Cr:LiCAF with AlGaAs diode lasers has already been demonstrated.1
