Abstract
Resonant arrays of antiguides or resonant-optical-waveguide (ROW) arrays’ are the only passively phase-locked structures that have demonstrated diffraction-limited powers beyond 1 W. Since conventional coupled-mode theory2 is not applicable to arrays of antiguides, the only accurate analyses of leaky modes have employed exact theory3,4 or the Bloch-function approach5,6 The latter allows simple descriptions of leaky array modes, but not at resonance.4 Here we present, we believe for the first time, the modes of infinite-extent arrays at resonance. It is shown that resonant, in-phase modes of arrays of antiguides correspond to a second-order distributed feedback (DFB) structure with the radiation component along the longitudinal device axis.
