Abstract

The multiple quantum well (MQW) polarization converter has been shown to be useful as an Integra ted-optic wavelength filter as a result of quantum size effects and modal dispersion.1 Herein, we report on a model for a reflection filter based upon this device. We find that filters having linewidths of <1 nm and peak reflectances of >95% can be achieved using GaAs/AlGaAs QW materials when such filters are operated at energies of ~50 meV below the heavy-hole excitonic peak.
