Long distance measurement by pulse-to-pulse alignment based on OSCAT

Abstract

We demonstrate a method for long distance measurement using a femtosecond pulse laser. The cross correlation patterns can be obtained based on optical sampling by cavity tuning (OSCAT). The unknown distance can be measured via the instantaneous repetition frequency corresponding to the peak of the fringe packet. The experimental results show an agreement within 10 μm in a range of 50 m, compared with the reference distance meter, corresponding to 2×10−7 relative precision.
