Unexpectedly Stalled: Two-Photon Microscopy Reveals White Blood Cell Adhesion in Capillaries Causes Reduced Brain Blood Flow In Alzheimer’s Disease

Abstract

About 2% of brain capillaries were occluded by leukocytes adhered to the vessel wall in mouse models of Alzheimer’s. When this adhesion was blocked, brain blood flow immediately increased by ~30% and spatial memory performance improved.
