Bloch oscillations of a free electron in a strong field

Abstract

We find that electrons in strong electromagnetic fields exhibit Bloch oscillations, in analogy to light propagation in index-gradient waveguide arrays. Our relativistic non-perturbative approach generalizes to multifrequency fields, producing rich variety of oscillations.
