Thermally-induced nonlinear spatial shaping of femtosecond pulses in nematic liquid crystals

Abstract

Optically-induced thermal nonlinear effects in a thin nematic liquid-crystal result from light absorption by the ITO coating of an infrared femtosecond laser. Subsequent spatial shaping characterises the thermal gradient, up to the isotropic phase transition.
