Abstract

Low loss Ge-on-Si waveguides are demonstrated in the 8-14µm atmospheric transmission window for the first time, with losses reaching 1dB/cm. Molecular fingerprint sensing is demonstrated using a polymer with absorption lines in this spectral region.
