Passive Q-switching based on nonlinear effect of multimode interference in tapered fiber

Abstract

A novel method to passively Q-switch an all-PM fiber laser is presented. A tapered fiber (free standing in air) is used as a saturable absorber based on Kerr effect of multimode interference in tapered section.
