Abstract
Optical eigenmodes define a family of mutually orthogonal beams for any given optical system. This set of beams offers a natural representation of the light enabling at the same time the optimisation of many field dependent properties. Further, using these eigenmodes for structured illumination leads to optimal single detector compressive imaging.
