Optical and Infrared Interferometric Imaging

Abstract

Optical astronomical interferometry on long baselines dates back well over 100 years, but needed the technical advances of the 20th century to become practical. Loss of phase information due to atmospheric turbulence and sparse coverage of the input pupil make image reconstruction a challenge. Nevertheless, images of stellar surfaces are now being produced, while some projects push toward wide-field interferometry and toward satellite imaging.
