A 20th way to do 3-D imaging using a Continuously Self Imaging Grating (CSIG)

Abstract

We apply computational diffractive imaging to propose a new method for 3D imaging by using a diffractive optical component called Continuously Self Imaging Grating (CSIG). This component has the property to sample the objects of a scene with a sparse spatial frequency spectrum. Since this sparse frequency spectrum is contracted depending on the distance of the object, the information from several objects at different distances can superimpose without overlap in the Fourier domain. It is thus easy to extract separately these different objects while having information of their position.
