Abstract

Our measurements of a low-loss, air-core photonic band-gap fiber show that the effective non-linearity of the fundamental mode is 1000 times less than that of a classical step-index fiber. The dispersion in the bandgap is primarily anomalous and significantly large. This fiber supports solitons with peak power exceeding 2 MW.
