Spherical and drum fused silica micro-lenses fabricated by the melting method

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We have developed methods to make spherical lenses with diameters from about 35 microns to about 300 microns. Drum lenses were made by irradiating the ends of fused silica rods. We show that spherical and drum lenses can be used to communicate VCSELs with detectors.
