Abstract

The improvement of semiconductor optical amplifier electro-optic switching times was experimentally obtained by using a pre-pulsed step technique, with a ten-fold reduction demonstration. Calibrated simulations foresee switching times around 5 picoseconds, for optimized parameters, if a proper chirp filtering is used after amplification.
