On the microscopic origin of light scattering in tissue

Abstract

Understanding the nature of light scattering within tissue is a crucial issue for development of medical imaging techniques. Microscopic measurements of static lightscattering profiles of thin tissue slices indicate that organization at the cellular level plays an important role in determining the local scattering properties.
