Abstract

An optical vortex is characterized by a harmonic phase variation about the azimuth [1]. Earlier [2] we considered an optical vortex in a field of low spatial coherence, where phase correlation between pairs of spatially separated points is limited. The properties of such field were described using cross-correlation function (CCF) [2], where a new type of singularities, called spatial correlation vortices (SCV’s), may form. The CCF can be experimentally observed [2] and altered. In this work we use analytical solution to investigate propagation of the CCF of a vortex beam. The understanding of SCV’s propagation may help control coherence properties of light and develop novel light sources.
