Gain Apodization in Highly-Doped Fiber DFB Lasers

Abstract

Axial gain apodization can lead to lower thresholds for fiber DFB lasers. Modeling shows the lasing threshold is reduced over 21% for a phase-shifted DFB laser without penalty on spectral-mode discrimination.
