Biomechanical Studies of Living Cells using the Optical Stretcher

Abstract

The optical stretcher is a novel biophotonic device capable of trapping and stretching individual biological cells. A geometrical optics model of force generation is used to determine cellular elasticity. Laser induced heating is carefully considered.
