Abstract
Analysis of light scattering from cells subjected to oxidative stress reveals subtle changes in organelle morphology. Angle resolved scattering is very sensitive to mitochondrial swelling induced by direct mitochondrial insult and by downstream effects originating in lysosomes. Recent work suggests that scattering measurements performed on cells loaded with organelle-specific absorbers can place constraints on the refractive index of organelle populations.
