Abstract

The progress in diffractive optics has been driven by microfabrication technology. Recent research investigates structures with sub-wavelength and nanoscale dimensions. Photonic crystals are natural descendants of diffractive elements. Even smaller are nanoparticles enabling the realization of new materials.
