The phase-space interpretation of self-imaging and discrete representations of paraxial optical systems

Abstract

Phase-space diagrams of the Talbot effect and the spectral Talbot effect are used to construct discrete representations of linear canonical transformations. Their importance is illustrated in the context of diffractive optics and compressive imaging.
